How to sell books at usedbook.sg?

It seems a bit weird to write this post at this time (after all, the site has been running for about 10 months and over 1,000 books have been listed). However, I still receive quite a number of inquiries regarding how to sell the books here. So it is worth writing this instruction post.

Well, to sell your books at www.usedbook.sg is easy and free of charge. Here are the steps:

1. Register (it’s free, and takes 10 seconds to complete)

2. Click “Sell your books (it’s free)” (basically it’s everywhere on this site)

3. List your book as instructed

The total process takes about 3 mins to complete. Of course, you need a valid email address to accomplish the purpose.

Dear users of usedbook.sg,

BIG sorry for those sellers who have received enquiries emails from buyers, but don’t know the buyers’ contact, unless they included them in the message.

Remember the contact functions at the right hand side of the book ads page right? (see below). Some time this year, during one update, our team forgot to delete the comment sign of one line of codes.

Therefore, problem as above happened.

We sincerely apologize for the negligence. We have rectified the issue. Everything works fine now.

I hate spam!

Dear users,

Recently, our team has improved some features to prevent spam comments.

Comment box has been used by most of the buyers and sellers to communicate with each other. To ensure a clean communication environment, the new features were added. The screenshot below demonstrates one of the new features:

Now, if you are not registered as a member at www.usedbook.sg, you need to copy the password shown, and paste in the second line. We are doing this to make sure only human beings (not gutless robots) can use the function!

FAQ-2: How to delete an Ad that I Have Posted?

Question 2: From User: “I would like to know if I can delete an Ad that I have posted?”

Answers: Simply logon to the “Dashboard”, referring to the picture below, click the pause button (in red box). Then your ad won’t be seen by public anymore.

However, if you have already marked your book as “sold”, normally nobody will contact you again. You can simply remove you “Quick Contact” information if you have some. By doing so, you can maximize the possibility to sell other books posted by you, while your contact information remains confidential.

FAQ-1: How to Edit Book Info after the Book is Listed?

Question: From User: “I registered to sell books but noticed that some of the info needs to be changed. For e.g. good condition should be No. 9 and not No. 1. Is there any way I can edit my dashboard?”

Answer: To amend the book info after it gets listed is really simple. Please log in to your member zone: http://www.usedbook.sg/wp-login.php, log in to the dashboard, click the pencil icon of the list you wanna modify. (See figure below). Now feel free to modify your list.

iPhone and iPad Listing Infomation Removed

Hi all,

Recently we have noticed that there have been alot of iphone and ipad sellling information here.

In addition, we have also found that most of the sellers are from overseas.

We believe, in this case, most of the sellers will require a buyer to remit the money before the ipad/iphone can be sent out.

Therefore, after careful consideration, we have made the following decisions:

To make sure the users interest is best protected, we have removed all the ads iphone/ipad selling related.
If you are a genuine seller, you can always contact us to show your creditability. We will try to assist you on your sales.

This is a platform where people can buy/sell used books. We will try not to shift the focus, for the interest of all the users.

In addition, all the users are advised to think twice before remitting any money overseas, to buy any bargain goods.

A Small New Feature and Bug

Dear Friend,

Happy Chinese New Year! Wish everybody a prosperous Rabbit Year!

As you may notice, a small new feature has been added to the website recently: a counter to show how many books have been listed and sold! It can be seen at the top of the website.

As of 5 February 2011, 452 books have been listed since Dec 8 2010. 79 books have been sold!

Another issue to mention is that we had a bug in logging on and signing up page.

Dear users, please accept our apologies. A section of codes was wrongly put at the login and signup page when we were implementing the new feature. Sorry for the inconvenience and trouble caused!

Minor Bugs Fixed, Usedbook Ver1.1 Released

Dear folks,

New school term will start on 4 Jan 2011. Wish everybody a smooth learning journey in the new year.

Just to announce that some minor bugs of the website has been fixed, include:

Alignment issue of the book listing, including the introduction text and price tag.
Book tags overlapping in IE6 and IE7, at the right hand side of the home page
